Title | Spring Wood |
Description | Scrappy record comprising only piece of 6 map with approximate area of site. Site appears to comprise linear earthwork banks in Spring Wood; probably noticed by P.Mayes during fieldwork c. 1980. The remains are probably similar to those in Honley Old Wood (PRN 7) to south west and also Slate Pits Wood (PRN 9) and Hagg Wood (PRN 8) also near Honley. Latter three sites are all scheduled. Remains on all these sites are generally thought to be remains of settlement and/or burial (cairns found on some of the sites) of BA/IA date. Spring Wood needs an SMR appraisal to confirm remains in first instance; possibly followed by survey. The other sites mentioned also require visits and full survey. Further to the above record, communication from B.Spence (18/1/1993) reports the observation of two enclosures in Spring Wood at SE 132124. As above, these need verification and a fuller record following a field appraisal. |
