TitleRingstone Reservoir A
DescriptionMesolithic tranchet axe, found 1923 in the bed of the Ringstone Edge Moor Reservoir when the water level was low. Find spot, at c.1000 ft. O.D. is one quarter of a mile SE of the summit of the moor. Axe is of dull grey flint with a core of cherty material which, apparently was the reason why the axe remained unfinished. Finder, Mr.E.Darby, maintains that some large grey flint flakes were found with the axe, but not retained; these were probably the trimming flakes. Mr.Darby was in possession of the axe in 1964. No further information available. Note the other tranchet axes found in West Yorkshire. See also Group Record 2855 for finds from R.Edge Reservoir.
